The same size as our classic DMX2dim, the RC4Magic DMXpix is a tiny wireless DMX driver for pixel LEDs. It runs two separate pixel strings with patent-pending RC4 Custom Pixel Profiles to create beautiful pixel effects while consuming a user-selected number of DMX channels and generating up to 3000 output channels. Using RC4 OneTouch™, RC4MagicPC Remote Configuration Software, or wired RDM, you specify the string type, DMX start channel, and various configuration parameters for each driver. Then, you control the magic from your DMX console in real time. Also on-board are a standard DMX data port, and an I2C interface for use with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and more. Only 61mm x 36mm x 20mm, the DMXpix is the future of portable, spectacular pixel displays. Intelligent pixel products have taken the market by storm. While each manufacturer offers drivers for their particular flavor of pixel device, few professional-grade drivers are built to control multiple string types (chip protocols). The DMXpix is the most versatile product possible, supporting all popular protocols (WS2801, WS2812, APA102, LPD8806, and many others that are compatible with these). More importantly, the RC4 Wireless CodeLoader, introduced in 2014 as part of RC4 Series 3 Harmonized Design, allows drivers for new pixel products to be added by simply downloading and installing them. Traditional mapping of DMX to pixel strings consumes vast numbers of channels — a single universe of 512 channels can control only 170 red-green-blue pixels. At the same time, many lighting designers use pixels for repeating patterns along a string, and to emulate separate lengths of traditional LED tape from a single string. RC4 Custom Pixel Profiles deliver the same design versatility and control to designers, while vastly reducing the number of console DMX channels required to render beautiful effects using up to 1000 pixel LEDs.

Patent-pending RC4 Custom Pixel Profiles conserve channels by letting designers create their own effect “key frames” using any desired length of pixels, group multiple LEDs into larger “virtual pixels” if desired, and then tailor how the key frame propagates down the pixel chain without needing additional DMX channels to do so. The matchbox-sized DMXpix does all of this for two separate strings up to 500 pixels long — the equivalent of 3000 DMX channels — controlled with anywhere from 3 to 510 channels within a single DMX universe, rendering the same eye-catching effects and visuals that previously demanded complex consoles, media servers, and vastly more wiring.

RC4 ColorMatch™, first introduced with Series 3 LED dimmers, is now provided for pixel strings. Adjust the color balance of each string to ensure a consistent palette, even when combining products from different manufacturers, different control protocols, and differences due to variations in LED binning. Pixel Color Order ensures all pixels in a large system will address colors with the same sequence (usually red, green, blue). By off-loading color correction and pixel color order to the pixel driver, rather than managing this in a console or media server, multiple different pixel strings can be controlled from the same DMX channels without unsightly color variation. Many more options are possible, and features are expandable. Unlike controllers with a range of canned effects, the RC4 DMXpix combines the flexibility of custom profiles and real time console control for a wealth of creative options limited only by the LD’s imagination. And, just like drivers for pixel string types, enhancements to the RC4 control structure are easily installed with the RC4 Code Loader. To make the DMXpix the ultimate DMX data conversion and control device, a DMX data in/out port is also provided, along with an I2C interface for use with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and most other microcontroller systems. Using the DMX port as an input, the DMXpix can be controlled by wired DMX with extensive RDM (remote device management) support. The RC4 CodeLoader makes it easy to add drivers for new string types as they appear, as well as update and add features.
Any number of receiver-dimmers can be used in an RC4Magic Series 2 or Series 3 system. The DMXpix includes all RC4 Series 3 Harmonized Design features:

Phoenix removable terminals are provided for connection of the power supply (+/-DC IN) and LED strings. The supply powers both the internal electronics and the connected strings, up to 6A total. Output voltage is precisely the DC power input voltage with no appreciable losses within the 6A total power handling limit of the device. The internal wireless DMX receiver operates identically to the RC4Magic Series 3 DMXio in receiver mode. The RC4 DMX miniplug port can used with a range of DMX adaptors, including 3-pin and 5-pin male and female XLR connectors. The most common adaptor is the RC4DMX5FA with 5-pin female XLR connector.

Pixel Strings –
WS2801, WS2811, WS2812, LPD8806, APA102. Each of these types is unique. Numerous other types are identical or compatible with these. Additional driver types can be installed in the field using the RC4 Code Loader.
Communicates with host device (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.) as an I2C slave emulating read-only-memory. The first 512 memory locations contain current DMX universe channel levels.
